ATHENS OFFICE
A workspace shaped by absence;
An office floor, once densely populated, now sparsely used - redefined by remote work and the ubiquity of digital meetings. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the space remained physically underoccupied, yet virtually active, with employees present only one day a week. As working patterns shifted, the design moves away from the former logic of individually assigned desks, introducing instead a zone for social interaction and exchange, while reimagining work areas in a flexible way. At its center, a large, multi-layered curtain divides the space, not with rigidity, but with atmospheric intent. Its materiality is defined by three layers:
- A translucent, soft mesh that filters light and offers semi-privacy, while maintaining openness;
- A thick, semi-transparent layer of vertical stripes that absorbs sound and moderates acoustics;
- A reflective blackout fabric with circular cutouts, mirroring -and hiding- the activity on either side of it;
Together, they generate a gradient of engagement and isolation -from retreat to exposure- allowing users to configure their own balance between focus and interaction. Scattered throughout, a series of custom-made objects encourage informal gathering, co-working, and play, shaping the office not only as a place of production, but of presence.
